It's that time of year again! Yes, it is World Pride in the city but for Toronto theatre-goers, that also means it's almost time for Fringe again! Toronto Fringe 2014 runs from July 2 to 13.
Here are some of the LGBTQ-themed or LGBTQ-related shows at the festival this
year.
Concrete Kid
This lesbian coming of age tale is set against the backdrop of Toronto's nightlife. With slam poetry, hip hop, a chorus of hot queers and a little bit of drag for good measure, 18 year old Jamie spends her first night out at a gay bar while her parents plan to send her to the country for the summer.
50 Times Around The Sun: A Cabaret Journal
Celebrating 50 years on Mother Earth, these are the melodies and lyrics that tell the story of life, love and loss for real-life, award-winning singer/songwriter living with HIV/AIDS, Kevin Nelson. The show features a cast of Toronto talents whose performances promise to shine in an intimate setting.
Pardon Me Cow
Growing up gay on a farm can't be easy. Luckily, writer/comedian D. Taylor Scott had one true friend - a cow! In this fast-paced comedy, Scott looks back on his crazy relatives and disdain for rural living while recognizing how it (and the cow) helped shape who he is today.
Komunka
Queer theatre heavyweight Sky Gilbert directs this play, originally conceived by Yury Ruzhyev. Set in a communal apartment in Russia, Komunka's characters fight, drink and talk about the Sochi Olympics, Putin, the Ukraine and gays. This show explores the mysterious Russian soul.
Behind Closed Doors
Emerging gay playwright/director Adam Bryan brings us Behind Closed Doors, an original musical about a dancer in a sexually abusive relationship and the steps she needs to take to get out of it. Bryan produces the show through his theatre company, Red Pants Productions.
Emerald City - A musical play
In this sequel to The Wizard of Oz, Dorothy has lost Toto; Tin Man is depressed; Scarecrow has ADHD; and Lion is seeking the courage to come out to his friends. Oh, and Glinda is now Oz's Next Top Model! Conceived and directed by Darren Stewart-Jones, this one sounds wickedly fun! :)
This Ain't The Yellow Brick Road
Writer/performer Jake Steele brings us the story of a man who was given a gift that can't be returned. The gift caused nothing but fear, anger, hatred and even death. This one-man show details the author's HIV diagnosis and his determination to meet life's challenges head-on and with humour.
Salvador
A mash of verbatim theatre, story telling, and drag performance, Salvador follows a young man who travels to El Salvador to investigate gay rights violations and ends up discovering more about himself than he bargained for.
The Common Ground: A Musical Dissertation
4 teens. 2 queer parents. 1 musical dissertation. Get ready for this musical journey through a research paper written all about teens with gay parents! Their voices are powerful, their perspectives are unique, and their stories promise to capture your hearts.
Redheaded Stepchild
This comedy, written and performed by the talented Johnnie Walker, is about a 12-year-old with red hair named Nicholas, his chain-smoking, ex-Jehovah's Witness golf pro stepmother Mary-Anne, and his impeccably stylish alter ego Rufus Vermilion. Johnnie plays all three characters.
Baker's Dozen
Ever wonder what the Butcher, the Baker and the Candlestick Maker were doing in that tub together? Take a peek into the Butcher’s murder trial to find out. In this show, a single puppeteer transforms one puppet into 12 jurors.
Tickets to these shows (and about 140 others) can be purchased online at FringeToronto.com or by phone at 416 966-1062.

Thanks for this article!! I need some suggestions and information on gay actors list because yesterday my friend told me about John Mahoney. He shared that he is also a gay but I don’t believe his words. That’s why I am looking gay list to prove him wrong.
